Leading and Managing Takes Time!

I used to think there was virtue in ‘going it alone’. I’d think to myself: “Come hell or high water I’m going to accomplish [this great thing] and I’m going to do it alone – against all odds – and the world will behold my greatness!!!”

I accomplished some pretty great things. But it was never alone – and it was never without help. When I finally embraced the axiom that ‘it is amazing what you can accomplish when you don’t care who gets the credit’, I (WE) started to accomplish spectacular things.

Everyone can use some help now and then. When seeking professional help, you need to be clear about what kind of help you need so you don’t waste your money.

Here is a simple guide to help you decide:

  1. Therapy is help in the quest for normalcy– When you need a baseline of being able to function in the world and have a good relationship with yourself and others.
  2. Coaching is help in the quest for excellence. – When you are looking to ‘up your game’ and reach goals and new levels of performance.
  3. Consulting is help in the quest for expertise. – When you need a professional who’s job it is to be an expert in something you need to learn about.
  4. Mentoring is help in the quest for experience. – When you need to learn from someone else’s experience.

For example: As an EOS Implementer, I’m a coach first. My passion is to help people create excellent businesses. I work with business leaders to help them strengthen their leadership and management abilities. I can do that because I’ve dedicated myself to being an expert on the Entrepreneurial Operating System. I can consult on the specific tools to get us there. I also have a bit of an edge because I have firsthand experience building businesses of my own. I’ve been there before and can mentor my clients with my real-life stories that are directly applicable to something they are going through.

When spending money on professional help, make sure you get the kind of help you need.
